CHRIST AT THE DOOR
Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Most believers have seen this picture of Christ Knocking At The Door.
The familiar interpretation of the picture is that it is a picture of Christ standing and knocking on the door of the unbeliever’s heart. If you
will note there is no door handle on the outside, thus requiring the sinner to open the door from the inside. This is true in that Christ does not
force Himself upon us, the door must be opened of ones on free will.
There is another picture in the scriptures where Christ is standing
outside a door and knocking. The text is found in Revelation 3:13-25 reference vs.20. The odd thing about this picture is Christ is knocking on the
door of a church, the Church in Laodicia. If Christ is “the head of the body, the church” (Col.1: 18) doesn’t it seem strange that he
would be outside trying to get in? It might help us to understand why Christ is outside when we see the condition of the church inside.
The spiritual climate of the church was lukewarm, which indicates they
lacked commitment and had no testimony. In fact, if it were not for their membership in this church you would probably not know they were Christians.
The light of this church had lost its ability to illuminate in a world of darkness and its salt had lost its savour so it could not be used to season…it
had no witness. Matthew 5: 13-16
Their lack of spiritual discernment is evident in that The Word of God
was not highly esteemed; hence they were blind and could not see afar off (2 Peter 1:9). They thought they had need of nothing, not realizing
everything that they had was worth nothing. In order for the church to be satisfied with all their fleshly possessions they had to remove The Word of
God which left Christ standing outside desiring to gain entrance.
So what does this mean for us friend? Have you opened the door of your
heart so that Christ can enter and be your salvation? “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him”. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. For whosoever shall
call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”. Romans 10: 11; 13
As His child how important is His Word? The scriptures warns “that the time will come when they (the church) will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts they shall heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned to fables” (novelty and untruth) 2 Timothy 4: 3-4. Have we set aside the Word of God that we might enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season? Hebrews 11: 25
In either of the above cases, if we will hear His voice and open the
door, He will come in a sup with us.
God Bless
